About Slovenia
Mountain Area
The area of Julian Alps and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps is among the most beautiful parts of Slovenia, while Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj and Blejski Vintgar, the gorge of Radovna River, are very attractive. The area of Julian Alps also includes the Valley of Soča River, which is the first Slovenian destination of excellence – EDEN. Another such destination is also the Solčava region in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Other major tourist destinations in this area include Kranjska Gora and Bovec, which offer numerous outdoor activities, and the cities of Kranj and Škofja Loka.

Uplands and Lowlands
At the foothills of the green Pohorje, there is the second largest Slovenian city Maribor as well as three natural health resorts: Zreče, Dobrna and Topolšica. In the eastern Slovenia, there are also other natural health resorts that have developed at the thermal springs. In Radenci and Rogaška Slatina, there are springs of healing mineral water. The third largest Slovenian city Celje is most distinguished by the Old Castle, while the Podravje wine region is scattered with wineries and tourist farms.

Coastal Area
The Slovenian coast is short, but offers many beauties. In addition to the Strunjan Cliff, the highest flysch wall on the Adriatic, there are also the Sečovlje Salt Pans, a landscape park and a sanctuary for many birds, which are a major sight on the coast. On the Slovenian coast, there are also several cities that are worth a visit. In addition to Piran and Portorož, there are also the attractive cities of Koper and Izola. The coast is ideal for water sports, while the hills of the hinterland are perfect for cycling. In Strunjan and Portorož, there are also two natural health spas.

Karstic area
The karstic area encompasses the majority of southern Slovenia. Most karstic caves are located in the southwest. The Postojna Cave and Škocjan Caves are worth a visit. The Predjama Castle, which is built on a vertical wall, behind which there is an intricate cave system, represents an exceptional attraction. In the little town of Lipica, they have started breeding the noble white Lipizzaner horses more than 400 years ago. The Lipica Stud Farm is a welcoming tourist and recreational centre with a riding school.

Heart of the Country
Ljubljana, the picturesque capital of Slovenia, can easily impress you with its relaxed yet lively atmosphere. Since it is situated in the centre of the country, it is an ideal base for getting to know the surroundings and other parts of Slovenia.
Weather, Climate and Geography
Geography
Mountains, rivers and major north-south and east-west transit routes dominate this compact and strategically important country. Slovenia borders Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast and Croatia to the southeast and has a 47km (29-mile) Adriatic Sea coastline in the southwest, where Koper serves as the main port.
Wheather
Slovenia has a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters (snowfalls in the Alps). There is a Mediterranean climate on the coast, with the average temperature at 0°C (32ºF) in January and 20°C (79ºF) in July. Summer here is typically warm, with consistent sunshine; whereas the winters are cool and fresh. In the northwest mountainous region of Slovenia, an alpine climate dominates, bringing cold winters and snowfall, with daytime temperatures hovering around 0.5°C (32.9°). Summer in this region, however, is pleasant, with moderately warm summers and light seasonal storms. January is Slovenia’s coldest month.
Required clothing
Medium-weight clothing and heavy overcoats in winter; lightweight clothing and raincoats for the summer, particularly for the higher Alpine regions in the north.
Passport and Visas
There are no visa requirements for US, UK, EU, Australian and Canadian citizens. All visitors (Except for EU citizens) must have a valid passport.
Note: Please visit the country’s embassy/consulate website for most updated visa and passport requirements.
